Debbie Knowles with Board

The Savanna School District is pleased to announce that Debbie Knowles has been selected as the District’s 2020 Teacher of the Year.  Since 2000, Mrs. Knowles has taught first and second grades at Reid School, including combination classes of the same; she’s provided strong leadership throughout her tenure there. She has served as a lead teacher for PBIS, assisting with the development and implementation of the program at Reid School. She has been instrumental in implementing a mindfulness program, encouraging the staff to join with her in the pursuit of helping students develop self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and social management skills.  In addition, she has taken a lead role on the site leadership team and as the PTA teacher representative. As a participant in the iPad project, Mrs. Knowles continues to assist colleagues with a variety of apps and technological tools.  She has served on the District’s ELA/ELD task force, report card committee, and has worked diligently to ensure that her grade level team has all necessary materials for mystery science and physical education lessons.  She has worked to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community members, and has consistently volunteered to assist as a volunteer shopper for the Buena Park Student Shopping Spree.

Selecting just one teacher to represent all those that work tirelessly to help our students achieve their potential was an extremely difficult task.  We're proud that Mrs. Knowles will be representing all of the outstanding teachers we have, demonstrating that Savanna truly is a special place to teach!
