Bus Transportation in Savanna

The Savanna School District provides as much opportunity as is economically feasible for students who live a long distance from their home school. If you have specific questions regarding bus transportation, you may call Jim Harris, Director of Maintenance, Operations, and Transportation, at 714-236-3826.

Bus Pass Applications

Bus passes will only be issued to students who have submitted an application and been approved for transportation.

Bus applications for the 2022-23 school year may be obtained by calling 714-236-3826.  The link for Summer Academy bus applications will be provided in the confirmation email for students accepted into the Summer Academy program.

Note:  The submittal of an application does not guarantee bus transportation.  A student must meet the requirements for bus transportation as outlined below:

Students who live more than a three-quarter mile walking distance from school
Students who face hazardous walking conditions
Students enrolled in a special education program not offered at the local school campus

Please note that students who receive permission to attend a school outside their attendance area must provide their own transportation to and from school

Students approved for bus transportation will be notified of their stop information prior to the start of school. Bus passes will be sent home on the first day of school.

Our bus drivers are dedicated and committed to ensuring student safety each and every day.  They take great pride in  what they do!

Students must scan their bus passes each time they enter or exit the bus

Replacement of Bus Passes

Initial bus passes will be issued to approved students at no charge.  A $6.00 replacement fee will be charged for lost passes; there will be an $8.00 charge for damaged bus passes.

Kindergarten Students

All kindergarten students must be met by a parent or a designated person (over the age of 18), on the student's emergency card in order to be released at his or her bus stop. No exceptions! This emergency card is located at the school site. If the parent or designated person is not at the bus stop, the student will be returned to the next school on route. After three "no shows" from a parent or designated person the student will be given a bus citation as a warning. If the parent or designated person continues to not be present at the bus stop a second citation will be issued with the student possibly receiving time off the bus.

School Bus Safety

In order to ensure safety of students on our buses, students must scan his/her bus pass when entering and exiting the bus. In addition, if the bus is equipped with seat belts, all students are expected to remain seated and use seat belts on school buses at all times. All of our school buses are equipped with video monitoring; this is one more enhancement to ensure student safety to and from school.

Students participate in bus evacuation drills annually.  They are taught proper bus behavior and how to enter and exit the bus safely.

Code of Conduct on the School Bus

In order to insure safety for all students, a set of bus rules has been developed and must be followed. Should a student fail to observe these rules, the following procedure will be used:

Parents will be notified of the misbehavior and if improvement in not shown, the student will be deprived of the priveledge of riding the bus for a specified period of time. After this, if he/she does not obey the safety rules, he/she will be removed from the bus immediately and a conference will be held with the parent, school principal, and bus driver.

The National Safety Council has issued a set of safety rules for students riding school buses. They are incorporated in the following Safety Rules for Students:

  • Be careful approaching bus stop; in areas without sidewalks, walk on left, toward oncoming traffic.

  • Student may be picked up and discharged from bus only at his/her designated bus stop.

  • Be on time for the bus - help keep the bus on schedule. Be at the bus stop several minutes before scheduled time.

  • Go directly to a seat in the bus without disturbing or crowding other students; remain seated while the bus is moving.

  • Follow instructions of the bus driver; realize that he/she has a big responsibility and that everyone can help.

  • Help keep the bus clean. Don't eat on the bus.

  • Remember that loud talking or laughing, or unnecessary confusion, diverts the driver's attention and may result in a serious accident.

  • Keep head, arms and hands inside the bus at all times.

  • Be courteous to other students. Remember we are working together for safety.

  • Treat bus equipment as you would valuable furniture in your own home. Damage to seats, etc. is unnecessary and always costly.

  • Remain seated until the bus stops to unload; wait for signal from bus driver, then cross the street in front of the bus; the driver will be in the street to help.

  • No pets are allowed on the bus.

  • No articles deemed hazardous by the driver are permitted on the bus.

Principals and District Administrators enjoy riding the bus occasionally. Teachers new to Savanna took a bus tour of the District prior to the start or the school year.
